The current system is kind of packed. The schedule are really rushed and unorganized. I am playing in one of this year’s elite 8 teams and I know the pressure.

It kinds of make me wonder what happen if we have a regular season during the Fall, and have a play-off tournament in the early summer, with the national championship game hold on 4th of July. That way more people will pay attention to the sport, more advertising revenue, and promote youth development that is crucuial to the future of MLS and U.S. Soccer.
Here is how it works:
The summer tournament will have 32 teams.
For each conference, the winner of the conference qualify for the summer tournament automatically. Besides, stronger conference may have additional play-off spots. The conference will be responsible for choosing/nominating the school that will go into the spot, anyway they want. There will be a handful of at-large bid that will be chosen at the discretion of NCAA, according to computer rankings and other factors.
The NCAA will choose a host city for the summer tournament, probably a year beforehand.

The 32 teams will seperate into 8 groups, by seeding and other factors (i.e. no team of same conference may be in same group etc.)

Then the tournament will proceed like the FIFA World Cup. You know how that works.

The tournament will start at early June, and should be in time to finish in July 4th. Most school will have exams already ended, so less pressure for players and fans.

Extra: National Champions will have a large sum of money going into the program. Sweet!
